TRIP REPORT: Avengers: Infinity War & May The Fourth at the Disneyand Resort

On May 3-4, I went to the Disneyland Resort with the expressed purpose of celebrating both the opening of the blockbuster Marvel Studios film Avengers: Infinity War and May The Fourth (considered an official/unofficial Star Wars Day).

The Thursday I arrived, I went directly to Disney California Adventure to see what they had to offer for Avengers: Infinity War. Sadly, there was surprisingly very little...particularly merchandise wise. A few people asked me if I could find them any cool Avengers: Infinity War souvenirs. There was hardly anything except for a few shirts (and. of course, the men's shirt was boring) and some of the toys from Funko and Hasbro that you can already find outside of Disneyland. It was so uninteresting that I didn't even take pictures of it. It was sad.

They did have characters galore which was great. I first went to see Black Panther and Black Widow who were meeting together. And, as always, the wonderful Dora Milaje were out as well.

Also, on the other side of the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy was meeting with Thor.

Captain America received his own patriotic meet and greet area.

Spider-Man continues to meet at the New York facade.

The police station overlay has been taken out to make the area look like an apartment complex in Queens, New York.

Make sure to pay attention to the area. There are a series of fun Easter Eggs here that are just so much fun. Up above in the widow of one of the apartment, you'll see a Monsters University pendant which is a nod to this area having been dressed up as a Monsters University dorm for meet-and-greets when the movie first came out.

On the balcony of that apartment is a sweatshirt from Midtown School of Science and Technology where Peter Parker goes to high school in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Also from Spider-Man: Homecoming is the bike that Spidey gets back from the crook trying to steal it and the note he leaves for the owner.

And, then there is the newspaper box which features the only Avengers: Infinity War reference. Also, if you look above the front page story, you will see 3 fun headlines about Black Panther and Wakanda. I thought this was a great idea and I wish they had peppered these kinds of references throughout the area.

Loki was walking around causing mischief as Gods of Mischief do!

I also went to have a riveting conversation with Groot!

And, I watched the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off to round out the whole Marvel experience. I noticed that they changed some of the music and added some video screens since I last saw it.

After the show, Gamora and Star Lord were nice enough to stop for a picture!

Doctor Strange is supposed to appear sometime later this summer. Its baffling to me why they wouldn't have him come out now, especially given his role in Avengers: Infinity War. While I had a great time, I do feel like there was so much missed opportunity here and its so surprising to me because they must have known how big the film would be.

Okay, on to May The Fourth! I was sad that I didn't get tickets for the Star Wars Nite before as it looked really fun. Having some health issues, I was unsure if I would be able to go down at all. I had made hotel reservations, but did't want to commit too much where I couldn't eventually cancel if I needed to. And, the event ended up selling out so quickly.

Anyway, the first thing I did (after picking up my official merchandise) was to go meet Rey who started officially meeting at Disneyland! I had long argued why Disney did not have a meet and greet with the character who is pretty much the main character of the new Star Wars trilogy. So, I was so glad when they announced that they would finally have her come out.

I also went to see her buddy Chewbacca!

And then went over to the Dark Side of the Force and met Kylo Ren!

But, I think, one of the most exciting things to see was the March of the First Order featuring Captain Phasma. The march takes places several times a day and it adds some great energy to Tomorrowland.

Also, at times of the day, they will patrol at the Star Wars Launch Bay building.

And, finally, they had a couple of photo opportunities set up for guests to enjoy for May The Fourth. The first one takes place in the trash compactor on the Death Star. Here I am happy to have found my cane in all the mess. LOL!

And, here I am trying to fight the Wampa on Hoth. LOL!

Overall, it was a great trip and I got to see all the characters I wanted to see. I hope that, as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and the upcoming Marvel Land open at the Disneyland Resort, that these experiences will feel a little more organic. But, for what they are able to do now, I am always grateful for the fun!
