10 of our Favorite Disney Live Action Musicals

Most of the Disney animated films are musicals, but there are many great Disney live action musicals as well. From guilty pleasures to masterpiece, these are the songs that make us belt out and sing. These are 10 of the best of them! What are your favorite Disney live action musicals?

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a lovely film trying to recapture that kind of Mary Poppins type magic. The soundtrack is quite pleasant with lots of fun songs. My favorite song from the musical is "The Beautiful Briny." Other songs I love are "The Age Of Not Believing," "Eglantine," and "Substitutiary Locomotion."

High School Musical

Admittedly, this is a guilty pleasure movie for me. Occasionally, I like to fire this movie up and dance along with the music. My favorite song is "We're All In This Together" which I feel is the anthem during this time of social distancing during COVID-19. Other songs I love are "Start of Something New," "Get'cha Head In the Game," "What I've Been Looking For," "Stick To The Status Quo" and "Bop To The Top."

The Muppets

The Muppets was a great return to the glory days of the Muppets. Following the basic conceits of The Muppet Movie," the film has a charming soundtrack of its own. My favorite song from the movie is "Life's a Happy Song." Other songs I love are "Pictures in My Head," "Me Party," "Man or Muppet," and, of course, "The Rainbow Connection" (which you'll learn more about how I feel about this song further down).

Mary Poppins Returns

I loved Mary Poppins Returns. It had a lot of weight on its shoulders being the sequel to Walt Disney's masterpiece, but I thought it was really enjoyable for what it was. I honestly thought Emily Blunt was great as Mary Poppins who brought her own spin while giving homage to Julie Andrews. My favorite song from the movie is "The Place Where Lost Things Go." Other songs I love are "Can You Imagine That?," "A Cover is Not the Book," and "Nowhere to Go But Up."

Enchanted

What would happen if a Disney princess came to life in the real world? That's what this hilarious film is about and I just adore it. My favorite song from Enchanted is "True Love's Kiss." Amy Adams and James Marsden are perfect in the song. I also love the rest of the soundtrack which includes "Happy Working Song," "That's How You Know," and "So Close."

Newsies

I remember when I first watched this film, I thought it was okay. It wasn't until later when the Newsies craze became big that I gave the film another chance and fell in love with it. My favorite song from the musical is "Seize the Day." The other songs I love are "Newsies Prologue," "Carrying The Banner," "Santa Fe," and "King Of New York."

Into The Woods

Into The Woods is my favorite Stephen Sondheim musical and one of my favorite musicals of all time. I think it was fitting that Disney did this musical given its fairy tale inspired story.

My favorite song is "Into the Woods" as it tells you all the motivations of the characters and it's just a fun song. Other songs I love are "A Very Nice Prince," "Giants In The Sky," "Agony," "It Takes Two," "Stay With Me," "Witch's Lament," "Your Fault," "No One Is Alone Now," and "Children Will Listen."

The Muppet Movie

The Muppet Movie is all about going out there and making your dream come true. The movie has the distinction of having my favorite song of all time - "The Rainbow Connection." The lyrics are so meaningful to me combined with a wonderful melody. Other songs I love are "Movin' Right Along," "Never Before, Never Again," "Can You Picture That?," and "I'm Going To Go Back There Someday."

Pete’s Dragon

Pete's Dragon is actually my favorite Disney musical (live action or animated) of all time. There is something just so charming about this film, the music, of course, being a big part of it. My favorite song from the film is "Candle On The Water." I remember, as a kid, pretending to be on a lighthouse singing the song. Other favorite songs as "Brazzle Dazzle Day," "Every Little Piece," "Boo Bop Bop Bop Bop (I Love You, Too)," and "There's Room For Everyone."

Mary Poppins

Of course, Disney's masterpiece is at the top of the list! Mary Poppins is a beautiful film with the most wonderful songs written by the legendary Sherman Brothers. Walt Disney's favorite song, "Feed The Birds," is also my favorite song from the film as well. Other songs that I love are "Sister Suffragette," "The Life I Lead," "A Spoon Full of Sugar," "Jolly Holiday," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Chim Chim Cher-ee," "Step In Time" and "Let's Go Fly A Kite."
