Trip Report: Disneyland and D23 Day at Mickey's of Glendale (May 9-10, 2014)

Apologies for the long delay in updates on my blog.  As you know, sometimes, life gets in the way and you can't do everything.  Anyway, I know I still need to finish my trip report for the Tokyo Disney Report and I still have to talk about my visit to Disneyland Paris (and I promise to finish them soon!), but, in the meantime, I'm going to offer this trip report for my recent trip to the Disneyland Resort.  Thanks for your patience!

I arrived at the Disneyland Resort around mid-day on Friday, May 9 and had to stop in Downtown Disney to pick up something for a friend.  On my way to the parks, I stopped by the Starbucks at Downtown Disney.  I had seen it from the outside before, but, on my other trips, I never had time to stop inside.  And, since I needed some coffee, I felt it was the perfect time.  I must say that the Starbucks in Downtown Disney is absolutely beautiful and well thought out.

After getting properly caffeinated, I headed to Disney California Adventure.  And look who greeted me when I came in!

And, then, I headed over to Hollywood Land as there was a certain doctor I wanted to say hello to...

It was so nice to see Doc McStuffins out and about on Hollywood Boulevard.  And, she was very popular!  I really do hope that she extends her stay beyond July when she's supposed to leave.  She's a perfect addition and the kids (okay, and me...LOL) love her so much.  It'll be sad if they take her away.

And, since I was in Hollywood Land, I decided to say hello to many of its other residents, including Sofia the First, Sulley in his Monsters University Varsity Jacket and Frozone...

After meeting some characters here, I headed over to Disneyland to say hello to Captain America as I had not had an opportunity to say hello to him since Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released...

And, if I'm visiting Captain America, then I have to visit Thor...

After, we did a little window shopping to check out all the awesome new Adventureland themed merchandise...

And, then, it was back over to Disney California Adventure for a little light dinner...

And, on the way out, I had to get a picture with Pluto on Buena Vista Street...

The next day, I spent the morning at this place in Glendale...

For those of you who don't know what this is, it's 1401 Flower Street, the home of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI).  Every so often, WDI opens its doors to Gold and Silver members of D23, the official Disney fan club.  That morning, D23 members were treated to not only a shopping day at Mickey's of Glendale, the store on the WDI campus, but a special preview of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Walt Disney World.

Unfortunately, absolutely no photography was allowed on the WDI Campus. In fact, as the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train preview was presented in the 1401 building, people were not even allowed to take in any sort of bag.  But, we all understood given the secretive proprietary nature of the materials.  Although, it is kind of like letting people who like to take pictures into a candy store and telling them they cannot look at the candy.  LOL!

But, what I will say is that, as a result of the preview, I'm actually more excited about riding Seven Dwarfs Mine Train than I was before.  For some reason, I had a complete disinterest in this attraction, dismissing it as a Fantasyland themed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  But, some of the new technology they've put into this attraction looks absolutely stunning.  So, now I'm excited to see it up close!

We also did receive a special lithograph designed for this particular event that we could have signed by all the Imagineers who worked on the attraction.  What a special treat!

After a morning at Walt Disney Imagineering, I made my way back to Orange County to spend a couple hours at Disneyland before I met people for a non-Disney event we were attending in the early evening.  I went directly to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to get a FastPass.  I still had not had an opportunity to ride the recently upgraded attraction and, every time I've come, the wait time has either been too long or the ride broke down.  Having some time to kill before I rode, I went over to the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree to see who was meeting there.  It looked like the Springtime Round-Up had been extended!

While Mr. Easter Bunny had gone back home, many of our favorite Disney bunnies were still out and meeting guests, including Thumper, Brer Rabbit, White Rabbit, Roger Rabbit and Rabbit!

Mickey, Minnie and Pluto were also still out in the adorable Springtime outfits...

And, randomly (although, absolutely welcomed), Baloo and Brer Bear came out as well.  Maybe they were Easter Bears?  LOL!

They're always so fun.  And, here they are having a Bear Battle to see who ruled the Easter Bears...LOL!

And, soon, it was time for me to go on this...

But, guess what happened?  Those of you who follow me on Twitter know.  Yes, when I went to go use my FastPass, the ride broke down.  I asked one of the cast members how long they predicted, although I had a bad feeling as they had completely evacuated the queue area.  He told me that it was going to be closed for at least an hour.  Sadly, I didn't have an hour and I was, once again, denied.  This is not to slam Disneyland for closing it down as I'm sure there was a reason and I'm grateful they inspect the attractions for safety.  It's just sad for me because my timing always sucks.  LOL!  Oh, well...there's always next time where I'm going to try to make more of an effort to ride.  It's not going anywhere soon, I'm sure.

And, with that, my Disneyland trip ended (well, there was a little more shopping that happened on Main Street and Downtown Disney).  I look forward to my next visit!
