Trip Report: Tokyo - Shopping At The Disney Store Shibuya & Kiddy Land in Harajuku; Dinner in Ginza (April 3, 2014)

Our plan was to go to Tokyo Disneyland this day, but, it started raining hard and consistently throughout the day.  So, we decided to go shopping instead at the Disney Store in Shibuya.  For those not familiar with Tokyo, Shibuya is one of the major shopping districts and fashion centers in the city.

The Shibuya Disney Store is also wonderfully themed, a throw back to before the sterile Imagination Station redesign of the Disney Stores in the United States.

But, of course, the best part of shopping at the Disney Stores in Japan are the unique merchandise.

Among some of the more popular brands at the Disney Stores in Japan are the UniBEARsity Bears.  They are teddy bears that each are outfitted to particular Disney characters.  They have the regular bears that are themed to the VIPs - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, Chip 'n' Dale...and then there are the limited edition bears that are themed to other Disney characters.  When we were there, they had bears themed to Alice in Wonderland characters.

Another popular item at the Disney Stores in Japan are these little "Tsum Tsum" plushes. "Tsum" means "pile on."  So, as you can see by the display below, fans can pile on their favorite Tsum Tsum plushes! :)

After shopping at the Disney Store in Shibuya, we headed over to Harajuku, which is sort of the Melrose Avenue of Tokyo...except completely on kawaii steroids.  It is the trendy pop and youth culture center of Tokyo.  And, the place to go for any Disney fan in Harajuku is Kiddy Land than has even more Japan exclusive Disney merchandise that you can't find at either the Tokyo Disney Resort or the Disney Stores in Japan.

And, this is just the DISNEY merchandise.  Kiddy Land sells pretty much any kind of character merchandise you can think of, from Pokemon to Barbapapa to Studio Ghibli to Star Wars.  You could spend all day in there and still not see everything!

After we left, we happened to pass this line of people waiting in the rain...for POPCORN! That's commitment!

After our shopping trip, we headed over to Ginza for a late lunch/early dinner at Mikasa Kaikan.  I always wanted to have Tepanyaki in Japan, so I was excited for our meal.

We had such a lovely dinner and great conversation.  We were there for almost 4 hours!

On the ride back, we got this fantastic view of Ginza at night.  While the rain prevented us from going to Tokyo Disney Resort that day, it ended up being a wonderful day!
