Trip Report: Tokyo DisneySea - Meeting Oswald The Lucky Rabbit (April 2, 2014)

As I mentioned, our primary objective on this trip to Tokyo was to be there for the historic debut of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit at the Disney Parks.  I posted a few photos of him shortly after we met him, so this is an expanded report with more report.  Also, just for full disclosure, some of these reports and photos are out of sequence for a more coherent narrative.

Once we made it past this line getting into Tokyo DisneySea...

...we literally sprinted directly to the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit meet-and-greet area that was set up in the Cape Cod area of the American Waterfront.  It's a charming little area they set up themed as a Spring farmer's market stand for Oswald's Farms.

The park opened at 8:00 am and we got to the meet-and-greet around 8:20 am.  By that time, it was about a 3 1/2 hour wait for this historic meet-and-greet!  When Oswald came out, everybody was so excited!\

Because of the Tokyo Disney Resort's frustrating and bizarre rule about taking only ONE photo at meet-and-greet areas with a queue, I tried to get as many photos as I could of him on the sly. :)

Finally, we made it up to the front and it was time to meet Oswald!  And, he was really amazing to meet. From what I understand, he is based on his design in the Epic Mickey video game, which makes sense as that video game is how many young people have been introduced to this character.  But, he still very much has early cartoon feel.   His arms and legs looked like rubber bands as they do in his cartoon shorts and his fingers and feet were square.  He was just so adorable.

Of course, having met Oswald, we wanted to get Oswald merchandise which we found at Steamboat Mickey's over in the New York Harbor section of the American Waterfront.

Sadly, none of the clothing fit me, but I had to get the little bag plush and pin!

Although, one fan had this bag plush of Oswald hugging his gal Ortensia on her bag that I really, really wanted.  She explained she got it at the Disney Store, but it was sold out. Wah!

Anyway, it was just such a magical experience to meet Oswald, especially on his first official day at Tokyo DisneySea and his first day ever at a Disney Park.  I will always remember it.  I just really hope they bring him to Disney California Adventure one day where he'll fit in so nicely on Buena Vista Street.
