Thoughts on Season SIX of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars"

Sadly, we come to the last season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  It's been an absolute pleasure being able to watch these in order.  This season is entitled "The Lost Missions."  Please note that I'm kind of live blogging while watching and there are some SPOILERS involved.  If you haven't watched this season yet, please wait until you have.

And, here we go with thoughts on the last season:

  • And so, with "The Uknown," the war rages on without our beloved Ahsoka Tano.
  • Tup is not feeling well.  He looks at Tiplar and Tiplee and says, in disdain..."JEDI!!!!"  Uh...oh. I have a bad feeling.
  • "Good soldiers follow orders..." Uh, oh...
  • Uh, oh...Tup assassinates Tiplar!
  • Admiral Trench reports to Dooku that one of the Clones took out one of the Jedi.  Dooku thinks it might be a traitor, but Admiral Trench, who has studied the Clones before, says it wasn't that and that he seemed to be under entrancement.  Interesting...
  • Tup is being questioned, but doesn't seem to remember.  He just keeps repeating "Good soliders follow orders..." Uh, oh...And, he seems to want to keep attaching Jedi.  Uh, oh...
  • It doesn't seem to be the Sith, though, that did this.  Curiouser and curiouser...
  • They think that the Separatists might have developed an anti-Clone virus.  Back to Kamino he goes for answers. The Separtists, however, attack and steal Tup.  Everybody wants answers!
  • Anakin, Rex and Fives steal him back.  And, back off to Kamino they go!
  • In "Conspiracy," Rex and Fives get Tip to Kamino, but Shaak Ti says they need to examine Fives because he might have been exposed to whatever virus Tup might have...but, inexplicably, not Rex, who's also spent a lot of time with Tup as well.
  • Nala Se says everything seems to be normal regardless of the fact that Tup wakes up and immediately wants to kill Shaak Ti.
  • Droid and Fives having a conversation about numbers and names. Fives says that names matter.  The medical droid, he nicknames, AZ-3.
  • The Kaminoans are working with Lord Tyranus!
  • The Kaminoans want to destroy Tup, Lord Tyranus want them to destroy Tup, but the Jedi want him brought back to the Jedi Temple.  One of these things is not like the other...
  • Fives convinces AZ-3 to perform an atomic brain scan on Tup to find out what's the matter.  AZ-3 finds a tumor that has developed and that the other Clones might be prone to it. Nala Se does not believe it and says Tup must be terminated.
  • Fives tries to get proof about the tumor to Shaak Ti to try to save his friend, but Tup sadly passes. I feel for Fives.
  • Shaak Ti wants to bring Tup to the Jedi Council, but Palpatine wants him in the hands of the Grand Republic Medical Facility. Nala Se agrees with Palpatine. The puppet master strikes again!
  • In "Fugitive," Nala Se accusses Fives of killing Tup.  Shaak Ti wants the intel brought to the Jedi Temple, but Nala Se objects.  Shaak Ti puts her foot down!  Oh...sookie sookie now!
  • Fives finds out his mind is going to be erased and put on sanitation duty from AZ-3.  Fives escapes and saves his droid friend.  He realizes the case being sent to the Jedi Temple has been switched.  Scooby-Doo mystery time!!!
  • "I'm afraid the Jedi have inspired creative thinking in some of the Clones.  That is the reason for some of this divergent behavior."
  • Tyranus does not want the Inhibitor Chip to get into the hands of the Jedi.
  • Fives finds out that an organic chip was in Tup's head.  Fives asks AZ-3 to find out if he has one, too, and to take it out.  He tells him he trusts him.  The medical droid finds one in Five's head, but the difference was that Tup's was malfunctioning.  The Scooby-Doo mystery continues!
  • Shaak Ti is a smart cookie.  She knows Fives isn't trying to escape, but looking for something.  But, what?
  • Fives questions Nala Se who tells him the Inhibitor Chips were installed by the Jedi to make sure they're not as aggressive as their source - Jango Fett.  Shaak Ti comes in and the proof is presented to her and says that he must have an audience with Palpatine, despite objections by Nala Se.
  • In "Orders," the conspiracy continues.  Nala Se does something to Fives.  Palpatine continues to pull strings. Shaak Ti despite her awesomeness continues to be clouded by the Dark Side. Fives, now accused of trying to assassinate the Chancellor, is now a wanted clone.  Oh, no!
  • Anakin and Rex go look for Fives as they know him the best. Fives doesn't know who to trust, though. Fives tries to warn Anakin about the Inhibitor Chips and how they can control the Clones, even to kill the Jedi.
  • Poor, Fives...and I mean that really.  I've gotten to know him so well over the last few seasons and, in particular, over the last few episodes.  And knowing how close he was to exposing the conspiracy, it's even more sad.
  • Palpatine is going to have the Clones "inoculated."  And, now Order 66 is on its way...Why didn't they explain any of this in the movies?  It would have made so much more sense!  I'm so glad they did this story line.  And, so emotional.
  • I'm very excited to see Embo back in "An Old Friend." I still want his hat.
  • Rush Clovis is back, too. Not so excited about that. He says the Banking Clan is broke and wants to Padme to help him prove it.  Palpatine tells her that she should trust an old friend.  Is the puppet master engineering this whole thing?  Hmmm....
  • Poor Teckla!
  • The vault is empty! And now Padme is being arrested for espionage.  I have a feeling somebody's pulling some strings here.
  • Anakin comes and finds out she's been dealing with Clovis.  He is not happy.  But, despite his better judgement, he's going to help her investigate.
  • Anakin and Clovis sneer at each other. There's some trouble in paradise.
  • Yup...Puppet Master.
  • In "The Rise of Clovis," everybody distrusts Rush Clovis, but Palpatine charges Padme to investigate.  That means more time with Clovis and Anakin is not too pleased about that. He's making demands and looking a little dark...
  • Yup...Puppet Master.
  • I like how Obi-Wan tells Anakin he can "sense" a deep anger in him...of course, he can't just see it on his face. LOL! Yet, despite having just lost Satine, you'd think he'd be a little more compassionate about Anakin's feelings.
  • Padme's hair buns!
  • Anakin has gone really dark.
  • Anakin Skywalker vs. Rush Clovis - FIGHT! Anakin WINS!  Or, does he? But, things are starting to fall into place for Anakin's descent.
  • "Our relationship is built on lies and deception. No relationship can survive that."
  • And, now, Rush Clovis is the head of the Banking Clan and Palpatine has put more distrust in Anakin's head. Yup...Puppet Master.
  • In "Crisis At The Heart," Clovis tells Dooku that he wants to do the right thing and be unbiased. But, Dooku threatens him and now Clovis is between a rock and a heart place...exactly where Sidious wants him.
  • Interest is raised on the Republic. The Senate is pissed. What is Palpatine up to?
  • The Separatists have invaded. Padme is prisoner again. Palpatine thinks Anakin should get involved. The strings keep getting pulled. Everybody now believes Rush Clovis is a traitor. Anakin is being sent to restore order.
  • "But let go of your selfishness. If you are to see clearly, not all is as it seems."
  • Sidious' plan...to install the Supreme Chancellor as head of the bank. Yup...Puppet Master.
  • Oops...Clovis realizes he's even more over his head than he originally believed. A ship hits Clovis' office.  Anakin has them both, but is losing his grip.  In his last act, Clovis lets go so Padme can be saved. I actually feel bad for Clovis.
  • Palpatine is now voted head of the Bank. Yup...Puppet Master.
  • In "Disappeared - Part 1," nobody can seem to believe that Jar Jar Binks is a trusted friend of Queen Julia of Bardotta.  LOL!  So, Mace Windu is chosen to go with him and has to be disguised as Jar Jar's servent.  LOL some more!
  • Mace can sense a disturbance in the Force on Bardotta.  Jealous much?
  • Jedi mind tricks don't work on Bardottans apparently.
  • The Queen has disappeared! They think it is the Jedi.  But, Jar Jar calms them down and everybody loves him.
  • Now, Jar Jar has been kidnapped where he discovers other members of the Royal Council of Bardotta. It turns out their life force is being stolen as a sacrifice.  Jar Jar is about to be sacrificed when Mace comes in to save him.  While Jar Jar saves many members of the Council, the Queen is still gone.  But, the Bardottans now have faith not only in Jar Jar, but Mace who they originally mistrusted.
  • Mace is starting to get Jar Jar. LOL!
  • In "Disappeared - Part 2," Mace and Jar Jar look for the Queen.  But, Mace feels darker forces are involved.
  • The Franglaw Cult, who have the Queen, want to sacrifice the Queen to the "Great Mother."
  • Jar Jar and Mace chase the Franglaw all over.
  • "The shadow will come.  The Great Mother will deal with you Jedi.  You will see."
  • Green energy. Great Mother.  Can it be? YES!  Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters has RETURNED!
  • "It may help you to know that I'm however that I am not a natural force like the Jedi or the Sith.  I use dark magic to achieve power.  But, as a Bardottan, you possess a strong connection to the living force.  A connection that is now MINE!"
  • Let's just hope with this new found power that you'll be able to defeat General Grievous, the Sith who was defeated by Gungans, next time.
  • Mace Windu vs. Mother Talzin - FIGHT!
  • Jar Jar saves Queen Julia. Mother Talzin is defeated! While Queen Julia thanks Jar Jar, Jar Jar credits Mace.
  • "Perhaps this is a new beginning for the Bardottans and the Jedi."
  • At first, when I realized that this was going to be a Jar Jar centric story line, I cringed a bit, but I have to say I really enjoyed these episodes.  Not just because I got to see Mother Talzin again, but I actually thought they were entertaining and funny.  And, I thought it balanced comedy and action well.
  • In "The Lost One," is it possible that the much talked about Sifo-Dyas, the Jedi who secretly negotiated the creation of the Clones, is still alive?
  • Palpatine suggests Yoda talk to predecessor Chancellor Valorum. Valorum says that he asked Sifo-Dyas to go underground to investigate the Pyke Syndicate but was killed with his Aide on Felucia.
  • Sidious is wondering why the Jedi are trying to find Sifo-Dyas. Ooh...Sidious can Force choke through the holographic transmission.
  • Anakin and Obi-Wan go to talk with the Pyke Sydicate. Obi-Wan notices, though, that Lom Pyke is wearing the crest of the Chancellor.  Turns out, the Pykes have had him prisoner all these years.
  • The Aide tells them Sifo-Dyas is dead, but it wasn't the Pykes who killed him.  He's about to tell what happened when Dooku arrives and Force chokes him to death.
  • Count Dooku/Lord Tyranus vs. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi - FIGHT!
  • The Jedi learned that the Clones were created for the Dark Side, but Yoda says that they must play the Dark Lord's hand...for now...lest panic and paranoia spread about the Jedi. Interesting.
  • In "Voices," Yoda is literally hearing voices. It's Qui-Gon Jinn!
  • Everybody thinks he might be corrupted by the Dark Side.  Yoda agrees it might be true. They examine him, not nothing seems wrong.  And, so, to the depravation chamber he goes to bring close to death to bring him deeper than one normally can.  This is some serious stuff!
  • Yoda starts dreaming of Qui-Gon who implores him to go to Dagobah to finish what he started.
  • Ki-Adi-Mundi is not a very trusting person, is he? Apparently, back in the Clone Wars, the Jedi couldn't see the dead.
  • Yoda is worried about Anakin and asks him to help him to escape.  He must make a journey alone.
  • "Disobeying the Council your expertise is. That is why I ask for your help.  It is the spontaneity you find so easily which others do not.  That is what sets you apart."
  • To Dagobah Yoda goes...Home, Sweet Home.
  • Qui-Gon tells Yoda he is a manifestation of the Force and brings him to the same place Yoda later brings Luke. Oh, no...he sees the Sith take over.  And, to make matters worse, Qui-Gon tells him it's only a portion of what is actually happen.
  • Qui-Gon is going to guide Yoda and show him how to be able to appear to the living when he passes in order to preserve the Force.
  • And, so, in "Destiny," Yoda goes to an ancient world that is strong with the Force (this place is).  He drops R2 off at the surface and goes into the well from which the Force seems to be flowing.
  • Five Priestesses will train him.  Some have faith in him and others do not.  Yoda, though, is ready to be trained. And, they are ready to train him.
  • Yoda must face his fears!  It is Yoda if he were possessed by Gollum!!!!
  • Light Side Yoda vs. Dark Side Gollum Yoda - FIGHT!
  • "Control over me you do not." Light Side Yoda - WIN!
  • Now he must face his temptation in the Valley of Extinction.  And, suddenly, he's back at the Jedi Temple.  Dead Jedi are all over the place, including Mace Windu and Youngling Petro.  AHSOKA is there, too!  DYING!  She wonders why they abandoned her.  Yoda feels like he failed! The Youngling Katooni, though, tells him he will take him to a place where there is no sadness.  All the Jedi are alive and there is no war.  All the Jedi are alive!  Even Dooku is there as if he never turned to the Dark Side.  Yoda is following the Jedi, but realizes it's wrong.  Dooku starts to attack Yoda, but Yoda refuses to give in and fight back.  Another test passed!
  • Yoda must now travel to Moraband, the homeworld of the Sith, for his final test.
  • And, now we move to the final episode..."Sacrifice."
  • Yoda arrives on Moraband which, as you can guess, is not flowery and beautiful.
  • As Yoda meditates, the Dark Side manifests as a giant snake.  Then, as Sith Lords.
  • Yoda heads on down to a crypt and Darth Bane, the ancient Sith Lord, appears before him.  Yoda is unphased, though.  The Priestesses say he is ready for his next trial, but they don't know what it will be.
  • Back on Coruscant, Darth Sidious meets with Count Dooku.  He doesn't know why Yoda is on Moraband, but wants to use Dooku's relationship with Yoda to see things using an old Sith ritual.
  • Back on Moraband, Yoda enters the Temple and finds Sifo-Dyas.  He asks Yoda to free him and he can reveal the identity of the true Sith Lord, but Yoda refuses to be tricked.  And, suddenly, Yoda finds himself on a transport with Anakin and the Clone Troopers.  Yoda is confused, but then he says he's ready to see the identity of the Dark Lord.  They find Darth Sidious and Count Dooku together.
  • Anakin beheads Dooku!
  • Yoda vs. Darth Sidious - FIGHT!
  • Yoda must either fight Sidious or save Anakin.  Which will he choose? Save Skywalker!
  • Sidious and Yoda fall, but Yoda is unflappable! Sidious realizes he cannot defeat Yoda and the Jedi yet...
  • Yoda wakes up and the Priestesses say that Yoda will continue to train with Qui-Gon Jinn.
  • Yoda returns to the Jedi Council and seems confident that they might not have victory in the Clone Wars, but for all time.
  • Phew...I can't believe I just binge watched six seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars within a week.  And, while I was sad that I was originally late to the party, I was glad Netflix made it now possible to be able to watch all the episodes altogether to have a greater sense of continuity.  The Sixth Season had so many great things to it, although, I did wish we could have seen Ahsoka one more time outside of Yoda's tests.  And, I do wish we could have seen the fate of Darth Maul since we never got to see a resolution on that.  Although, I hear the scripts originally developed for the series will be made into a 4 issue comic book mini-series.  So, I look forward to that. Regardless of what this season is missing, I thought it was a great final season that further linked the events of prequel trilogy so that they make more sense.  And, even more so, it restored my faith that great Star Wars stories can still be told.
