"it's a small world" celebrates its 50th anniversary with global sing-along
On April 10, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of "it's a small world," a global sing-along will take place at all the Disney Parks around the world.  In addition, people are encouraged to submit videos of them singing the classic tune to where they'll also be able to create virtual dolls to share.  As the attraction was originally created as a tribute to UNICEF, the Walt Disney Company will donate $150,000 to UNICEF plus $1 for every submitted video and $1 for every shared doll up to $100,000. To kick off the celebration, Disney also released this wonderful video featuring "it's a small world" co-songwriter Richard Sherman and people from around the world singing the song:

Next D23 Expo announced for August 14-16, 2015
At the Walt Disney Company's Annual Shareholder Meeting, Disney Chair and CEO Bob Iger announced that the next D23 Expo will be held August 14-16, 2015.  The expo will return to the Anaheim Convention Center. No other details were given.  (source: Disney Geekery)

Pirate-themed land to be be part of Shanghai Disneyland
Also at the company's shareholders meeting, Bob Iger announced that Shanghai Disneyland would feature a pirate-themed land called Treasure Cove.  The centerpiece of this new land will be Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure which will feature new technology and promises to be different than anything we've seen.  The attraction will also feature Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Davy Jones from the films. Disneyland to expand with more Marvel and Star Wars, but the Finding Nemo Subs stay
Bob Iger laid to rest rumors that the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage in Tomorrowland at Disneyland, assuring shareholders that the popular attraction would return.  Iger said at the annual meeting, "We believe it's in its rightful place and open and there for guests to enjoy, young and old." It had been rumored that the attraction would be torn down to make way of the Star Wars theming of Tomorrowland.  Iger did, however, say,"We are looking at opportunities for Marvel and Star Wars. You can expect there's more ahead for Disneyland." (source: DIS)

New Maleficent trailer released
A new trailer for Disney's Maleficent was released this week featuring Maleficent with wings and more footage for the highly anticipated film.


Sequels announced for Cars and The Incredibles
At the Walt Disney Company's Annual Shareholders Meeting, Disney Chair and CEO announced that Pixar Animation Studios are developing Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2. While not many details were given, Brad Bird, who directed the original The Incredibles film, is set to write the screenplay for the sequel, but no word has been given if he will also direct. Pixar Animation Studios' Director of 3D production Josh Hollander has announced that they are working on 3D re-releases of both The Incredibles and Ratatouille.  It appears they already have a version ready for Ratatouille and are currently working on The Incredibles 3D adaptation. Marvel releases stills & concept art for Avengers 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man
On March 18, ABC aired a special entitled Marvel Studios: Assembling A Universe which highlighted the fledgling studio's continuing plan to build one cohesive universe that has, so far, featured the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Avengers films as well as the television show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  As part of the special was also a look forward to films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man which also featured concept art looks at Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Marvel's Kevin Feige talks Avengers: Age of Ultron; Potential Captain Marvel movie
In an interview with Movies.Com, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige talked a bit about Ultron in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron film.  Of Ultron, he said, "We love Ultron from the comics, and have always loved Ultron, and at no point do we want him to just be a robot. We want him to have an extreme personality and attitude, and James Spader is doing an unbelievable job."  Also, in an interview with Badass Digest, Feige implied a potential Captain Marvel film. While talking about the possibility of a Black Widow solo film, he said, "I like the idea if we’re going to do a [female lead] do a new one. Do a wholly new character, do an origin story."  Then, when asked specifically about Captain Marvel, he said, "We’ve talked a lot about [Captain Marvel]. I think that would be very cool." While that's no confirmation of a solo film for the popular female Marvel superhero, it is interesting to note that her name has been discussed. Paton Oswalt to star on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel Studios has announced that comedian Paton Oswalt will appear on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Agent Eric Koenig.  The character he will be playing was originally part of Nick Fury's Howling Commandos during World War II in the comics.  No date was given for his scheduled appearance. New The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer Released
Sony Pictures has released the final The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer featuring closer looks at both Green Goblin and Rhino.


Star Wars: Episode VII to take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi
At the Walt Disney Company's Annual Shareholders Meeting, Disney Chair and CEO Bob Iger announced that Star Wars: Episode VII will take place 30 years after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.  While he did not talk about casting, he did confirm R2-D2 would be in the film and that filming will begin at Pinewood Studios in London this May. Mark Hamill to make first appearance at Star Wars Weekends
Disney has announced that, for the first time ever, actor Mark Hamill, who brought to life Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, will appear at Star Wars Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. He will appear on the 4th weekend from June 6-8, 2014 and will be featured in both the "Legends of the Force" motor cavalcade as well as a talk show.  Disney is already telling guests to get there early to see the popular actor.  (source: Disney Parks Blog)

Star Wars: The Clone Wars chronology revealed
Now that Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been released in its entirety on Netflix, "Holocron Keeper" Leeland Chee from the Lucasfilm Story Group tweeted a condensed chronology of the series as many of the episodes were aired out of sequence.  The Star Wars Underworld has posted a well organized chronology based on his tweets.  Be sure to check it out if you plan to binge watch the entire series!

Kermit and Miss Piggy perform "Rainbow Connection" with John Legend and Queen Latifah
The Muppets have been heavily promoting the release of Muppets Most Wanted which opened on Friday.  They've appeared on everything from QVC to Awesomeness TV and the clips are too many to count.  So, I thought I'd end this news round up with my favorite clip.  It's Kermit and Miss Piggy joining Queen Latifah and John Legend to perform "Rainbow Connection" on The Queen Latifah Show.
