Tangled's Festival of Fantasy float vs. The Princess float in Mickey's Soundsational Parade

Last night, my friend Lori from Capturing the Magic shared on her facebook page an image going around on Tumblr of the Tangled float in the upcoming Festival of Fantasy parade at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

In case you have a hard time seeing it, here is the concept art:

And, seeing it, one has to ask, "When was the scene in Tangled in which Rapunzel and Flynn Rider rode a Viking Boat with a dangerous obstacle course on it?"

Does anybody know what was the logic behind this float?

And, it got me thinking about one of my favorite floats of all time at any Disney Park - the Princess float in Mickey's Soundsational Parade at Disneyland.  For those of you have not seen it, it has a giant Tangled Tower in the middle of it.  While it's not specifically a Tangled float, how perfect would it have been for a Tangled themed float, right?  Look at how beautiful it looks coming down Main Street USA...

And, what I love about the float are all the cute "Easter Eggs" that are all over the float, including Pascal, Mrs. Potts and Flora, Fauna and Merryweather.

Tangled Tower looks so beautiful towering over you...

And, if they had a Tangled float that actually looked like this, look at how lovely Rapunzel and Flynn Rider could look on the float...

While it's probably not something that can be changed at this time, it is interesting to see what could have been if they had gone with a more familiar landmark from the Tangled film.  I'm just saying. :)

  1. OMG, I just had a long comment typed out and then I accidentally left the page and now it's gone.

I agree with you. The float is ugly and has absolutely nothing to do with Tangled. If they wanted to make a float to appeal to the boys, they could have done the inside of the Snuggly Duckling and had some thugs on the float with Rapunzel and Flynn. I would have loved to see the float be the boat that Rapunzel and Flynn were actually in with lanterns above them. I would have also been ok with a float that had her tower on it. I would have taken just about anything that actually came from the movie. I'd love to know their reasoning for making a float that has absolutely nothing to do with Tangled. Also, that seems like an awfully big float for just Rapunzel and Flynn to be on. I'm hoping they'll add some other characters from Tangled but knowing Disney, Rapunzel and Flynn will be it.

Attractions Magazine told me that the pictures originally came from a video that they posted, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHFTF-l-KZg.

    1. Yeah, there are so many different things they could have done. I think a float of the boat they were on with the lanterns would have been awesome. And, it would have been different than Soundsational, which I like.

And, you're right...it does seem like a huge float for just two characters. Do you think Flynn is going to be running the gauntlet as the float goes down the route? It seems odd that they'd put all those obstacles and not have anything happen.

It will be interesting to see how it all looks when it starts its run. But, I think we're both in agreement that there are so many other ideas they could have used for such a beloved movie.

  2. The scene when Rapunzel and Flynn are in the boat with the lanterns is my favorite part of the movie and I would have loved to see that come to life.

I have no idea what they're going to be doing on the float. I assume they'll just be standing at the front waving.

  3. At first I thought the float was the one they used in Tangled's promotional poster then I realised no, it's not
