Speculating Who's Going To Die In "Once Upon A Time"
Remember at the end of the mid-season finale in December when Rumplestiltskin sacrificed himself to save them all? Well, don't think that it's him. According to the interview, they are very specific...
"Every series regular cast member is a possibility – except for Robert Carlyle. The EPs have agreed to rule out that one candidate, seeing as Rumplestiltskin is theoretically already “gone” (having sacrificed himself in the name of vanquishing Peter Pan)."
That leaves us with the following characters - Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), Mary Margaret Blanchard/Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), David Nolan/Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), Regina Mills/The Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla), Henry Mills (Jared Gilmore), Neal Cassidy/Baelfire (Michael Raymond-James), Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin).
So, since I have to wait so long for the show to start up again, I thought I'd take a moment to speculate on who I think it might be that dies. So, if you'd rather not think about it, just stop here. Otherwise, let's play!
I'm just going to immediately rule out Emma, Snow White, Charming and Regina. I know they're a possibility, but I just don't see it happening. Maybe I'll be totally wrong.
In the case of Emma, they just spent time creating a reality in which she now has a second set of memories, similar to the "Storybook" and the "Storybrooke" characters. She is the "Savior" and, frankly, the main character of the show. I just don't think it's going to be her.
Snow White and Charming are her moral compasses and the cornerstone fairytale of the Once Upon A Time universe. If anybody has a fighting chance at a happy ending, it's going to be them. So, while we'll continue to see the things that tear them apart, I just think they'll eventually be together at the end.
Regina, along with Mr. Gold/Rumpletstiltskin, are also just too popular. It would be like killing off Daryl Dixon on The Walking Dead (Daryl is, arguably, the most popular character on the show for those who don't watch The Walking Dead). The general public will have a collective heart attack if she dies this early into the show. I'm not saying she'll never die. But, I would imagine it would be during a season in which ABC announces it will be the show's last.
I'm on the fence about Henry. He is getting older and that kind of wide-eyed innocence is starting to wear away a bit. But, he IS the true believer and, just like every Keymaster needs its Gatekeeper, I think every "Savior" needs its "True Believer." So, I don't think it's going to be him.
That leaves us with Neal, Captain Hook and Belle...
So, let's start with Belle. Of the main characters, she's probably had the least amount of screen time. But, if we possibly see the return of Mr. Gold, then she needs to serve as the person who continues to ground him. Also, honestly, because she has been given the shortest screen time among the main characters, I have a feeling we're going to see more. Especially since they seemed to have established a relationship now with her and Ariel. And, I'm still looking forward to a Cagney & Lacey style detective show spin-off for those too. Hee hee...
That leaves us with Emma's two suitors. I have a feeling it's going to be one of them. We've seen Captain Hook come back at the end of the mid-season finale. Although, we see that "true love's kiss" does not work between them. That said, Captain Hook has become incredibly popular. How would the public feel about their killing him off?
Then, there's Neal. I actually think it's going to be him. Yes, there was a lot of build up about bringing both Emma and Neal together. I think about it and the uniting of Emma and Neal would also be Henry's happy ending. Also, could a kiss between Neal and Emma be the "true love's kiss" that will unlock her memories? But, then, I start thinking how Emma and Henry are really characters from the real world where happy endings are not always grown on trees. Is it possible that Emma and Henry, despite their pivotal roles to the Storybook/Storybrooke characters, are not meant for a happy ending? And, if Mr. Gold does return, I can see the devastation among all these characters ripple through the rest of the series that could be interesting as sad it would be to watch.
Anyway...again, it's speculation. And, like I said, I might be way off. We still have several weeks before the second part of the season starts. But, what do you think? Who do you think is going to die?
