Castles, Capes & Clones News Round-Up - Week of January 19, 2014

One of the things I'm hoping to do is a new roundup of stories I found throughout the week and tend to post on either my facebook page or twitter account.  That way I can share the stories for those who tend only follow the blog.  I'm going to try to do these on Saturdays which tend to be slow news days anyway.  So, for now, here's your Castles, Capes & Clones News Round-Up!

Disney Super Bowl News
News came that Guardians of the Galaxy would air its first trailer during the Super Bowl, but, unfortunately, director James Gunn tweeted that "there will not be one, but we will have something incredibly awesome for you soon.  In other Super Bowl news, The Muppets will be featured in the Toyota Ad during the game. The Hunchback of Notre Dame Stage Show Comes To U.S.
For those of us who are huge The Hunchback of Notre Dame fans, the La Jolla Playhouse has made a special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions to bring the production to the United States.  A stage production had appeared in German in 1999, but never came to the United States.  The Hunchback of Notre Dame will run from October 28-December 7 at the Mandell Weiss Theatre. Shanghai Disneyland Resort Update!
On Wednesday, the first of two Disney themed hotels topped off a the Shanghai Disneyland Resort.  The hotel is said to hold 800 rooms and stand 7 floors tall.  The topping off of the hotel is only preceded by an unnamed Shanghai Disneyland "Mountain."  This mountain will be the second highest structure at the park, second only to the Enchanted Storybook Castle.  It is also the highest "mountain" in Shanghai's Pudong New District.  The report also shows no Disney transportation system being built akin to the Disney Resort Line at Hong Kong Disneyland, but that several Metro Trains will have Disney elements. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. To Bring More Marvel Characters!
Marvel announced that J. August Richards' character Mike Peterson on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will become the classic Marvel character Deathlok.  Marvel has also released a primer to familiarize those not familiar with the character.  Also, the official Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. twitter account gave more details about Lady Sif's (Jaimie Alexander) appearance on the show.  She will apparently be searching for Lorelei who comic book fans will recognize as Amora the Enchantress' sister who has the power to control men.  Elena Satine (Smallville) will play Lorelei.  It's interesting that all of this comes after ABC's Entertainment President Paul Lee said during the Television Critics Association's press tour that they planned to bring more of the Marvel Universe and mythology to the show. Ant-Man Release Date Moves Up
Marvel's Ant-Man has moved up to July 17, 2015 which was the date originally held by DC's and Warner Brother's Batman vs. Superman.  Ant-Man was previously slated for July 31. (source: Marvel)

Disneyland Annual Passholders To Be Treated To Sleeping Beauty Event
Disneyland Annual Passholders will be able to sign up for a screening of Sleeping Beauty, celebrating the animated classic's 55th Anniversary, as well as experience a Fantasyland After Hours event. On January 29, several screenings will be held at the Disneyland Opera House on Main Street USA with the 2 extra hours after closing for viewers to ride select attractions.  Characters from Sleeping Beauty will also be out. Lunar New Year Celebrations At Disney Parks
On Thursday, the "Endless Fortune" celebration of the Lunar New Year began at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.  The celebration will include unlimited luck spread throughout the seven themed lands, Mickey and friends dressed up for the Chinese New Year, special food and merchandise and a Happiest Chinese New Year Celebration Parade.  Speaking of the Lunar New Year, Fat Hobbit has shown some of the fantastic "Year of the Horse" merchandise at the Tokyo Disney Resort and, as a reminder, at the Disneyland Resort, the Lunar New Year celebration will return to Disney California Adventure. Iron Man Experience Construction Begins Soon
The Iron Man Experience, the first Marvel attraction at a Disney Park, will begin construction at Hong Kong Disneyland after the Lunar New Year celebration.  It looks like the Disneyland Railroad will be disabled throughout construction.  (source: Disney and More)

Star Wars: Rebels News
Entertainment Weekly interviewed Star Wars: Rebels Executive Producer Simon Kinberg who said that the new show will be different that Star Wars: The Clone Wars and will take its inspiration from Ralph McQuarrie's work on the original films.  He also notes that there will be a darker tone, but that it's "closest intended voice" is A New Hope.  And, he also says that they are drawing from different parts of the Star Wars universe and that they've been working with Pablo Hidalgo who is one of the people working to put together a consistent Extended Universe.  In other news, Lucasfilm Animation Supervisor Keith Kellogg tweeted that animation on the first episode of Star Wars: Rebels has been completed. Star Wars: Episode VII News
Star Wars: Episode VII director and co-writer J.J. Abrams said during the Television Critics Association summer press tour that the script has been completed and shooting should begin in May.  Also, in an interview with TV Guide, Carrie Fisher said that she, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are expected to start work on Star Wars: Episode VII in March or April (source: The Force.NetTV Guide through Club Jade)

They Can't "Let It Go."  Frozen Sing-A-Long To Be Released!
With the continued success of Frozen, Disney has announced it will release a "Sing-A-Long" version in more than 1,000 theaters around the country.  Screenings at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood will also feature appearances by Anna and Elsa along with snow flurries. (source: D23)

No Happy Ending For One Main Character On Once Upon A Time
Once Upon A Time creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis told TV Line that a main character, outside of Robert Carlyle's Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold (who's fate we still don't know), will die during the second half of the third season.  Which one?  We'll have to wait and see. (source: TV Line)
