November 8, 2013 - THORsday! Or, the day I watched "Thor: The Dark World" at the El Capitan and then met Thor at Disneyland

Among Disney fans, the inclusion of Marvel characters has been a little bit controversial.  But, for me, as a comic book geek, I am very excited about it.  And, as a mythology fan, Thor was always one of my favorite comic book heroes.  So, I can only say that the day that Thor: The Dark World opened was one of the most exciting days of my life! :)

I began my day at the El Capitan Theatre, Disney's flagship theater, in Hollywood, CA where I would watch the film.  I always love watching Disney movies here because they always have special things.

I was quite excited, when I entered, to receive a pair of Thor themed Real 3D glasses!

Inside the lobby, they had some movie props that came from Stan Lee's private collection, including Thor's helmet, Loki's helmet and Thor's hammer Mjolnir signed by Chris Hemsworth, Stan Lee and Tom Hiddleston!  For those who don't know who Stan Lee is, he created and co-created many of the most beloved heroes in the Marvel Universe, including Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and others.  He's like the Walt Disney of Marvel Comics.

Downstairs, there were also come costumes on display... well as a display of vintage comic books...

One of the most wonderful things about watching movies at the El Capitan is seeing the fabulous Rob Richards play the Mighty Wurlitzer.  It transports you back to the Golden Age of Hollywood Movie Palaces where watching a movie was more of spectacle!

After the movie, I walked back to the Hollywood & Highland Entertainment Complex where I parked and saw that they were challenging people to see if they were worthy of lifting Thor's hammer Mjolnir.

I, of course, had to try it...

Sadly, although having dropped a lot of money on Thor pins and a VIP seat to watch the movie all while wearing a Thor t-shirt, I was not deemed worthy.  LOL!

After leaving Hollywood, I made my way down to Disneyland to meet the man (or god) himself!  I made a beeline all the way to Innoventions where Disneyland is housing the Thor: The Treasures of Asgard attraction.

As you enter the attraction, you are treated to several of the actual props from Thor: The Dark World.

Once you make your way through the queue, you are invited to enter another room in which you are treated to more "treasures from Asgard."

After a cast member guides you around the room, soon we hear the voice of Odin who tells us that he is opening the Bifrost (a mystical "bridge" that connects the Nine Realms) so that we can be teleported to Asgard.  And, suddenly, we find ourselves in the throne room, face-to-face with Thor himself!

Now, I am not ashamed to say that I got teary and emotional after meeting Thor.  Again, as a comic book geek who has been reading comics all his life, it was amazing being able to meet one of my favorite superheroes.  It was like a childhood dream.  It was an amazing day and so glad that Disneyland allowed this opportunity for me to meet him!

  1. The one and only time you will rush to Innoventions LOL!

    1. Right? Since they added the Marvel stuff in Innoventions, I think I've spent more time in there than I have in YEARS!
