May 5, 2013 - Mermaid Lagoon

Okay, another one of my favorite lands at Tokyo DisneySea is Mermaid Lagoon, the land devoted to Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid!  Like I did entering Tokyo DisneySea for the first time, I had a real visceral reaction to seeing the exterior of Mermaid Lagoon.  It looked exactly like Atlantica from the film!  I jumped up and down with excitement!

On the outside, there are several rides akin to what you might either see in A Bug's Land or Mickey's Toontown.  You know...kiddie rides.  Not extremely impressive, but, fun nonetheless.

But, then you see the sculptures outside of some of our favorite undersea friends...

...and you see some of the details in the tiling and you're ready to be drawn in!

Greeting you as you enter is a statue of King Triton himself on his chariot being pulled by dolphins!

A trumpet fish stands at the mouth of the entrance to announce your arrival...

...and now we were ready to descend into Triton's Kingdom!

It is really difficult to capture in photos the experience of making your way under the sea from this point.  You're essentially going down a spiral walkway, but it is so wonderfully themed, you can't help but you actually are swimming to the magical world of the Little Mermaid!

On the surface, the area looks like it is another series of kiddie rides, albeit beautifully themed.  There is a Jumpin' Jellyfish ride that is exactly the same as the one in Disney California Adventure...

...and the Blowfish Baloon Race which is similar to Flik's Flyers in A Bug's Land...

...and The Whirlpool which is similar to Francis' Ladybug Boogie also in A Bug's Land...

...but, there's really so much more.  The area is so beautifully themed!

There is the fabulous Ariel's Playground that can be explored by both children and adults alike...

...where you might stumble across Ursula's Dungeon...

...or find yourself in a Galleon Graveyard...

...or trapped in the Fishermen's Nets...

...or lost in a Kelp Forest!

But, the greatest find in Ariel's Playground is Ariel's Grotto!  It actually took us much exploring to find it!  And, we're adults!

Oh, Prince Eric...I want to be part of your world!

We also took some time to shop in the Mermaid Lagoon's store - The Sleepy Whale Shoppe!

Sadly, we didn't watch during our entire trip The Little Mermaid show at the Mermaid Lagoon Theater.  I'm not sure why we never watched it, but I'd heard good things about it...

We don't really get to return to Mermaid Lagoon during our trip except for one important character meet-and-greet which I'll blog about later when we get to it later in our trip.  We literally ran for it, too!
