May 22, 2013 - Revisiting Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant

Of all the Disney Castles around the world, Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant is undeniably my favorite.  It is just so beautiful and honestly does look like they plucked it out of Sleeping Beauty and placed it in the middle of Disneyland Paris.

So, after wandering around Frontierland for a bit, I wanted to go and explore both La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty's Gallery) upstairs and La Tanière du Dragon (The Dragon's Lair) below the Castle.  I'd been to both before, but I absolutely adore them.

First, we take a visit to La Tanière du Dragon!

Again, thanks to my friend Dan who told me that the Dragon under the Castle is not, in fact, Maleficent, but one that was hatched from an egg found by Merlin.  He keeps the Dragon below his store Merlin l'Enchanteur.  It was a way of tying together his story into the Castle.  COOL!  At the time, it was the largest audio-animatronic built and is such an amazing sight to see!

Honestly, pictures don't do justice to this amazing Dragon that resides under the Castle.  Again, it's another thing that brings texture to the park.  There's no purpose to the Dragon other than to immerse you into the setting.  It is such an amazing sight to see!

Then, heading upstairs, we found ourselves in La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant...

Now, I've always found the walk through at Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle quite charming.  But, La Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant has an elegance that tells the story of Sleeping Beauty through stained glass, tapestries, sculpture and art.

One of my favorite sections is when the tapestry in which the Three Good Fairies put the kingdom to sleep.  It is flanked by two suits of armor, both slumped over like they are asleep.  Also, I love Diablo the raven turned to stone as he was by Merryweather in the movie.  Such charming touches!

After walking around the gallery, we stepped outside onto the terrace to get a gorgeous view of Fantasyland!

Walking along to the Discoveryland side, you also get a nice view of that land... well as the wishing well.  Please appreciate this picture as I literally had to wait for 10 minutes for nobody to be in this shot.  LOL!

Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant is absolutely beautiful from top to bottom with so many details that just enhance the experience.  Now you know why this is my favorite Disney Castle of them all!
