May 13, 2013 - Closing Ceremony for the Disneyland Resort

Our final day at the Disneyland Resort, we got up very early for our Disney Dreamers Everywhere Closing Ceremony for the Disneyland Resort.  It was great to go in before the park opening and get some lovely shots down Main Street and at Sleeping Beauty Castle without crowds of people...

We were then led to Mickey's Toontown where our Closing Ceremony would be held...

We sat down in front of Toontown City Hall for our ceremony to start.  Suddenly, some of our favorite characters came out to celebrate...

Soon, Jamboree Jed arrived with Mickey!

And the ceremony began...

...then, Donald Duck, our Character Ambassador for Disneyland, and Pluto, our Character Ambassador for Walt Disney World, came out for the passing of the Disney Dreamers Everywhere Passport!

After the ceremony, Mickey and Friends went to meet people in front of their respective houses.

Then, the characters came back out at Toontown City Hall for a group photograph...

After the group photo, many of our other favorite characters came out for a group shot at Toontown Fountain...

Then, different character sets went to meet in Downtown Toontown!

Don Karnage, Baloo and Louie from Tail Spin (okay...Baloo and Louie without the shirts are technically The Jungle King...picky, picky!)...

The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf...

...and Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow!

I also took a picture with our fabulous tour guides at the Disneyland Resort as well!

After the meet-and-greets, we had a nice breakfast.  I took a moment to wander around Mickey's Toontown to get again to get photos without crowds...

After the breakfast, the characters took one final group shot in front of Toontown City Hall...

...and then they went to say good-bye to us as we left Mickey's Toontown...

...then, they decided to walk us out...

...and, while they tried to say good-bye to us at the tunnel...

...they couldn't help but follow us out to say one final good-bye!

It would be hard to compare any of our closing ceremonies to our finale at Disneyland Paris (be sure to check back when I get there as there are lots of great photos and moments), so I won't.  Instead, I'll say that, of all the other Disney Resorts outside of Paris, this was, by far, my favorite Closing Ceremony.

Mickey's Toontown offered an amazing backdrop for photo opportunities with these characters.  I just loved it!

So, as I have done with the other Resorts, I'll offer my reflections on the Disneyland Resort.  Disneyland is my home resort and will always be special to me.  Regardless of how close a Resort comes to Walt's dream, you cannot deny Walt's presence at Disneyland.  And, having been able to go up to Walt's apartment and see the light that is always on to signify his always being there, it has even more meaning to me.

  1. In the first couple of photos of the DL closing ceremony, I saw Roger Rabbit hidden in some of the character group shots.

What happened with him there? I guess he left after the ceremony started or something?

  2. I don't know where you're seeing Roger Rabbit. His grand debut was at Disneyland Paris which I'll blog about later when I get to Paris. Look for photos of him then!

    1. He's EXTREMELY hidden in a couple of the photos here. If you look REALLY close, you can see his yellow gloves and the tips of his long floppy ears.

In one of the pics, one of his ears is visible from behind the man in the blue suit.

And in the pic that shows the man in the blue suit driving the bike with Mickey riding in it, you can see Roger's yellow glove right next to Horace.

And in the pic that has Don Karnage, Launchpad, Huey, Dewey and Louie in the foreground, Roger's yellow glove and white arm are, again, right next to Horace.
